International Scientific and Practical Seminar "Artificial Intelligence in Training Future Language Teachers: International Experience and Development Prospects in Kazakhstan"

As part of the implementation of the institute's strategic development direction — "Enhancing Academic Quality and Digitalization of Education" — the Department of Russian and Uzbek Languages hosted an international scientific and practical seminar titled "Artificial Intelligence in Training Future Language Teachers: International Experience and Development Prospects in Kazakhstan." The event took place in a teleconference format.

The seminar aimed to introduce innovative methodologies and develop digital competencies (AI-assisted language learning) among educators and prospective teachers. Students, master's students, and faculty members of the university actively participated in the event.

The keynote speaker was Olga Markovna Tabachnikova, Head of Russian Studies and Director of the Vladimir Vysotsky Centre for Russian Studies at the School of Languages and Global Studies, University of Central Lancashire (UCLan, Preston, UK).

The organizers of this scientific and methodological event were the Head of the Department of Russian and Uzbek Languages, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Shynar Nalkhozhayevna Yergeshbayeva, and Candidate of Philological Sciences, Acting Associate Professor Zhadyra Zhumatayevna Zhumagulova.

Key Topics and Outcomes

The two-hour seminar program featured an expert lecture by the international speaker and a practical session focused on integrating AI into philological education.

Participants explored the following key areas:

Digitalization and Innovative Methodologies: How generative AI tools transform lesson planning, teaching material preparation, and student self-study organization.

Academic Integrity and Critical Thinking: Guidelines for ethical AI usage, verification of AI-generated content, and upholding academic honesty standards.

Linguacultural Context: Adapting international digital practices to the specific context of teaching Russian and Uzbek in Kazakhstan.

During the practical session, participants examined real-world case studies of applying AI tools in teaching practice, discussing both their limitations and potential to enhance educational quality.

This seminar marks another practical milestone for the Department of Russian and Uzbek Languages toward digitalizing the learning process, elevating the quality of philological education, and strengthening international academic collaboration.
